BEEN GONE FOR A WHILE. NEVER FOR TOO LONG.

Browsing through one of my favorites, majormusthaves page, I ran across a post quoting Gabriel Union's speech while accepting her Black Women in Hollywood Award, she opened up about her past mistakes and how she defines "fierce and fearless." I thought it was admirable.

"We live in a town that rewards pretending. I had been pretending to be fierce and fearless for a very long time. I was a victim masquerading as a survivor. I stayed when I should have run. I was quiet when I should have spoken up. I turned a blind eye to injustice instead of having the courage to stand up for what’s right. I used to shrink in the presence of other dope beautiful women. I used to revel in gossip and rumors, and I lived for the negativity inflicted upon my sister actresses or anyone who I felt whose shine diminished my own.  It’s easy to pretend ‘to be fierce and fearless because living your truth takes real courage.

Real fearless and fierce women admit mistakes and they work to correct them. We stand up and we use our voices for things other than self promotion. We don’t stand by and let racism and sexism and homophobia run rapid on our watch. Real fearless and fierce women complement other women and we recognize and embrace that their shine in no way diminishes our light and that it actually makes our light shine brighter. So many of us in this room are sisters. We don’t always get to see each other and its good to see you here today. Women who we’ve laughed with, cried with, and struggled with, thank you for not turning your back on me, thank you for not tap dancing on my misery, even when I wasn’t always returning the favor."

I've heard the natives of Austin call this area Castle Hill, its a cool spot to come and check out the different graffiti art that gets sprayed across what seems like the inner core of a semi-demolished building. It also has a beautiful view of Downtown Austin. While Sarah & I were checking out the art we ran into a music artist by the name J Ray Hartley and his robot getting some shots for a project they have in the making. It only made sense that I would get involved :) God always has a funny way in showing you when things are meant to be.

Up and out early for a 9am church service this pass Sunday, I threw this outfit together.  Getting back to church was well over due and this was my husband and I first time back to church since giving birth to my 5 month old son. The sermon was great & perfect for the New Year, it was titled How to make today count! After church I left the boys home and picked up my "little sister"
to take her to The CheeseCake Factory for her birthday.  Back in November she and i celebrated our  year anniversary of being matched together, I'm her mentor and she's my inspiration :)  i think i made today count in more than one way!
